GDG Philippines Android App 4.0

It has been more than a year since I have last updated the GDG Philippines Android app. After updating the Chrome Extension, I have spent some time working on another release. The code has been migrated from Java to Kotlin and I used Retrofit, Coroutines, and ViewModel to fetch the events from the Meetup API. I also added Dark Theme and other design improvements. Some of the chapter links have also been updated.

What's Changing?

For 2021, contributions for SSS and PhilHealth will be increasing. The rates for Pag-IBIG Fund was also planned to increase from 100 to 150 by January 2021 but they decided to postpone the change to January 2022.

The minimum and maximum salary credits used for computation will now be 3,000 and 25,000 (from 2,000 and 20,000).

Sweldong Pinoy and Budget Pinoy for 2021

We planned to update sweldongpinoy.com and budgetpinoy.com to use the 2021 rates before the year ends. However, some of you might want to use our apps using the rates for 2020. You might also be interested to compare how your salary for 2020 and 2021. We have added a dropdown so you can choose the current or upcoming rates. For now, the app will compute using 2020 rates by default. Starting January 1, it will automatically use the new rates. If the increases for next year will be postponed, we will be updating our apps to reflect that.

New Thirteenth Month

It's (almost) Christmas! One of the things Filipinos look forward to this time is the thirteenth month pay. Almost six years ago, we developed a tool for Filipinos in computing their 13th-month pays called Thirteenth Month.

With the Thirteenth Month app, users can input their salary and find out around how much their Thirteenth Month Pay will be. In the initial version, they need to provide the monthly salary and their starting month and ending month. We then added an option to provide starting and ending weeks to be more accurate. This works if you have the same salary year round. However, this is not always the case in real life. People get salary increases or sometimes move to another job with a higher pay.

Now, users can input their salaries from January to December. If they have the same salary for the year, they can select "My salary is the same for the whole year" and provide the salary, starting/ending week/month like before. The text fields for the months will be automatically filled up.

You can now provide your salaries per month or select My salary is the same for the whole year

Output screen updates with the salaries per month

We are now rolling out the new updates in time for the Christmas season. Try them now at https://13thmonth.sweldongpinoy.com and on version 2.0 of the Android app. The Android app also has Dark Theme.

If you have suggestions on how we can improve Thirteenth Month and/or our other apps, please contact us by emailing us at info@sweldongpinoy.com or by sending us a message. For more updates, like us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter and Instagram.

Budget Pinoy for Everyone

Budget Pinoy is a tool for Filipinos in finding out how much their asking salary should be based on their budget. The app will even tell you how much to save per category per pay day.

After you provide your Daily, Weekly, Monthly, Quarterly, or Annnual budgets, the app will compute and display the asking rate you need to earn enough for your total budget. This uses the contributions and taxes for a "Private Employee" by default.

We have now added a dropdown for employment type so users can select their employment type instead of the default. When you change the employment type, the app will update the deductions and asking rate accordingly. This update is available now at https://www.budgetpinoy.com and on version 1.1 of the Budget Pinoy Android app (which is rolling out now).

Sweldong Pinoy for Self-Employed Individuals

When we launched Sweldong Pinoy in 2012, our apps initially computed net pay, withholding taxes and contributions to SSS, PhilHealth and PAG-IBIG for private employees. Over the years, we have added computations for Government Employees, RHQ/ROHQ employees, and Minimum Wage Earners.

We're happy to announce that now, we're adding computations for Self-Employed Individuals in Sweldong Pinoy. They pay for the employer and employee shares for SSS, PhilHealth, and Pag-IBIG. You just need to select "Self-Employed Individual" in the employment type and the app will compute the contributions for SSS, PhilHealth, and Pag-IBIG Fund, tax, and other contributions, as well as how much your net will be.

Sweldong Pinoy for Self-Employed Individuals is available now on https://www.sweldongpinoy.com and on version 4.3 of the Sweldong Pinoy Android app, which is rolling out now.

Sharing Sweldong Pinoy Results

One of the features we have on our Android apps is sharing the computation results to your preferred app by tapping on the share icon at the top-right of the toolbar. This has not been available on our web apps, even if you're using your phone or tablet browser.

Starting today, you will now be able to share the results from Sweldong Pinoy, Budget Pinoy, and Thirteenth Month on supported mobile browsers (like Chrome on Android and Safari on iOS). You will see a new Share button, at the bottom of the results, which you can click to share the results.

This feature is not available on other browsers, including desktop ones. We will be adding another functionality soon so users will be able to e-mail the results. If you have comments or suggestions about sharing and/or our apps, please let us us by email (info@sweldongpinoy.com) or via Facebook Messenger. For more updates, like us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter and Instagram.

Sweldong Pinoy at 8

Today, Sweldong Pinoy is now eight! Sweldong Pinoy started as an app for personal use but we have released it on April 3, 2012 so others can use it too. With the app, you can compute your net pay, withholding taxes and contributions to SSS, PhilHealth and PAG-IBIG.

You can check a brief history of Sweldong Pinoy at https://timeline.sweldongpinoy.com/

Other than the Sweldong Pinoy web and Android apps, we have also developed other applications like Thirteenth Month, Budget Pinoy, and Budget Penny. Thirteenth Month is a tool for computing their 13th-month pays. Budget Pinoy is a tool for computing gross and net pay based on user's budget. Budget Penny is your budget assistant that can help you with your finances. We're also working on more projects to help Filipinos

Thanks to everyone who are using our apps and helping us improve them! If you haven't used them yet, try our apps now. If you have comments, suggestions, and inquiries, you can email us at info@sweldongpinoy.com or you can also send us a message.

Tigcal Apps and Projects in 2019

Tigcal Apps and Projects

The repository for Tigcal Apps has been open sourced on Github. Tigcal Apps has served as my sandbox project for learning and working on Material Design Components, AndroidX, Kotlin, Dark Theme, and more.

Sweldong Pinoy

There has been two major updates to Sweldong Pinoy this year. The SSS contribution was updated based from Republic Act No. 11199 (The Social Security Act of 2018). PhilHealth contribution was also updated based from the Universal Health Care Act (Republic Act No. 11223) and PhilHealth released Circular 2019-009. Other updates included design improvements and Dark Theme for the Android app.

Budget Pinoy

We have also released the new version of Budget Pinoy, which now has a web app at https://www.budgetpinoy.com other than the Android app.

Budget Pinoy is a tool for Filipinos in finding out how much their asking salary should be based on their budget. Users can input their budgets and specify if they are Daily, Weekly, Monthly, Quarterly, or Annnually. These will be totalled and the app will show the user the asking rate they need to earn enough for their budget. The net pay and deductions are computed using Sweldong Pinoy.

Boto Ko

Boto Ko was also updated for the 2019 National and Local Elections in the Philippines. The candidates for senators and party list representatives have been added in a list so it will be easier to select. In the party-list selection, there is an additional button to view the party list's nominees.

Tigcal Samples, Tigcal Utils

I also added in my Tigcal Samples repository the Android projects I've worked with in the past few months and the Bill Calculator I removed from Tigcal Utils. A separate repository was also made for my Tigcal Utilities app.
