Sweldong Pinoy in 2019

The year is almost over. In 2019, we have done some design and performance improvements to our Sweldong Pinoy apps. We  also worked on new features and new projects. Here are some of our major highlights for 2019.

SSS Contribution Increase

Republic Act No. 11199 (The Social Security Act of 2018) was signed earlier this year by the president. Under the law, the monthly contributions of SSS members will be increased from the current 11% to 12%. We have updated https://www.sweldongpinoy.com and released Version 4.1 of the Sweldong Pinoy Android app to use the new rates. Learn more here.

PhilHealth Contribution Increase

The Universal Health Care Act (Republic Act No. 11223) was signed into law last February and PhilHealth released Circular 2019-009 announcing the new premium contribution schedule effective December 7. We have updated https://www.sweldongpinoy.com and released Version 4.2 of the Sweldong Pinoy Android app to use the new rates. Learn more here.

New Budget Pinoy

We have also released the new version of Budget Pinoy, which now has a web app at https://www.budgetpinoy.com other than the Android app.

Budget Pinoy is a tool for Filipinos in finding out how much their asking salary should be based on their budget. Users can input their budgets and specify if they are Daily, Weekly, Monthly, Quarterly, or Annnually. These will be totalled and the app will show the user the asking rate they need to earn enough for their budget. The net pay and deductions are computed using Sweldong Pinoy.

Dark Theme

We have been experimenting with adding Dark Theme alongside the design changes we're adding on our apps. The latest release of Sweldong Pinoy Android App and the new Budget Pinoy app now have Dark Theme support.

We'll continue to improve the designs for both Light and Dark Themes. The next version of Thirteenth Month Android app and our other apps will include Dark Theme. We're also experimenting on adding Dark Theme support on our web apps.

New Budget Pinoy

A few months ago, we have released an Android app to help you in budgetting for your expenses and finding out what your asking rate should be based on your projected budget. We called it Budget Pinoy. Since then, we have re-worked it and developed a web app. And now, we are happy to announce to launch the all new Budget Pinoy.

Budget Pinoy is a tool for Filipinos in finding out how much their asking salary should be based on their budget. The app will even tell you how much to save per category per pay day. You can try Budget Pinoy at https://www.budgetpinoy.com. The Android app has been updated to version 1.0 and can now be downloaded from the Google Play Store.

Users can input their budgets and specify if they are Daily, Weekly, Monthly, Quarterly, or Annnually. These will be totalled and the app will show the user the asking rate they need to earn enough for their budget. The net pay and deductions are computed using Sweldong Pinoy. Since there's only a few days left in the year, the apps are already using the PhilHealth contribution rates for 2020.

Dark Theme on Android

Along with updating the Sweldong Pinoy Android app for the PhilHealth Contribution Increase, we spent a bit of time adding some redesigns and Dark Theme support. Dark Theme improves visibility for users with low vision and sensitivity to bright light, makes devices easier to use at night or in low-light environments, and can reduce battery usage for some devices.

Android 10 has a new global system setting for Dark Theme. The Sweldong Pinoy app will automatically follow this System default settings. To change the theme, go to the Overflow Menu (⋮) on the top-right of the screen to open the Settings Screen. On the Theme preference, choose Dark. You can also use these steps to change it into Light or back to System default.

For older versions and on supported devices, the app will default to Dark Theme when Battery Saver is enabled. You can change it to Light, Dark, or Set by Battery Saver.

Below are screenshots of how the app looks now with Light and Dark Theme:

This is available on the recently released version 4.2. The Dark Theme still not final. We'll continue to improve the designs for both Light and Dark Themes. Future versions of Thirteenth Month and Budget Pinoy apps will include Dark Theme. We're also experimenting on adding Dark Theme support on our web apps. If you have suggestions on how we can improve the design and experience, feel free to message us soon.

UHC: PhilHealth Contribution Increase

On February 2019, the Universal Health Care Act (Republic Act No. 11223) was signed into law. It will automatically cover all Filipinos in the National Health Insurance Programme (NHIP). There will be additional health benefits to members. However, the law will also mean increases to the PhilHealth contributions from 2.75% in 2019 to 5% in 2024.

Just recently, PhilHealth released Circular 2019-009 announcing the new premium contribution schedule effective December 7, 2019.

Sweldong Pinoy At Seven

Sweldong Pinoy is now seven years old! The initial version of the app, then named Philippine Salary Calculator, became available on April 3, 2012.

Sweldong Pinoy started as an app for personal use but we have released it so others can use it too. The app can compute net pay, withholding taxes and contributions to SSS, PhilHealth and PAG-IBIG. Over time, we have added additional features (GSIS, Minimum Wage Earners, RHQ/ROHQ employees, OT, night differential) and updated icons, user interface, and other designs.

You can check a brief history of Sweldong Pinoy at http://timeline.sweldongpinoy.com/

Other than the Sweldong Pinoy web and Android apps, we have also developed other applications like Thirteenth Month, Budget Pinoy, and Budget Penny. Thirteenth Month is a tool for Filipinos in computing their 13th-month pays. Budget Pinoy is a tool for Filipinos in computing gross and net pay based on user's budget. Budget Penny is your budget assistant that can help you with your finances.

Aside from updating our apps, we are also working on some projects that will be helpful to Filipinos. Please stay tuned in for more details.

Thanks to everyone who are using our apps and helping us improve them. If you haven't used them yet, try our apps now. If you have comments, suggestions, and inquiries, you can email us at info@sweldongpinoy.com or you can also send us a message.
