Sweldong Pinoy in 2015

Most of the changes to Sweldong Pinoy this year was on performance improvements and design enhancements. Here are some of the updates to Sweldong Pinoy throughout 2015.

Sweldong Pinoy Updates

We have released Sweldong Pinoy for Minimum Wage Earners on April. Our apps our apps will no longer deduct withholding taxes for employees earning minimum wage if you select "Minimum Wage Employee" in the Employee Type.

Other updates:
  • For employees with daily pays, you can now provide the actual number of days and the app will compute your salary based on this instead of the previous default of 20. This is because not everyone works for 20 days in a given month.
  • We have also improved the computation for the hourly and daily rates which are being used in salary computation, like the night differential and overtime pays.
  • The apps now compute night differential based on number of hours instead of the days
  • Minor changes like moving compute button to right and clear button to the left

Thirteenth Month Updates

For Thirteenth Month, we had two updates to the apps: setting the ceiling for non-taxable thirteenth month to 82,000 pesos (pursuant to Republic Act No. 10653, which was approved on February 12, 2015) and computing for thirteenth-month pay based on the actual weeks inputted by the user.

GDG Watch Face

One of the great feature of Android Wear smart watches is that you can change your watch face (and even customize them). As I have been studying more about developing Android Wear apps, I decided to also read about creating Android Wear Watch Faces. After reading about designing and developing Watch Faces, I am proud to publish my first Android Wear Watch Face, the GDG Watch Face, on Google Play Store.

The GDG Watch Face on a round watch

GDG Watch Face brings the GDG (Google Developer Group) spirit into your wrist. The watch face is primarily an analog clock with the GDG logo in the middle. It also displays the date and a small digital clock (24-hour time for now). Users can customize the watch face by showing/hiding the date and by changing the colors of the hands (hour, minute, second) and hour markers.

Customizing the GDG Watch Face as shown from a square watch

I will be continuing development of the watch face, like adding more customizations and adding a mobile configuration app so you can update the watch face from your phone or tablet. If you have comments and suggestions, please let me know.

You may download GDG Watch Face on Google Play Store.

Help Me

Last weekend (April 18-19), Celine and I joined Accenture Technology Talks & Hackathon 2015. The theme for the hackathon is public safety.

After fifteen hours of hacking, we were able to finish our app, Help Me. It is an emergency button application that allows you to send an SMS to your specified contact person with a click of a button. The message contains your last known GPS coordinates, as well as the nearest known place. The app will also continuously send SMS until you tap the "I am Safe" button.

Help Me Android App

Help Me also has an Android Wear app. You can use the wearable panic button application to send emergency SMS from your Android Wear Device. We were able to test this on Moto 360 and LG G Watch.

You can download Help Me on Google Play Store. Let us know if you have comments and suggestions to the app.

Sweldong Pinoy for Minimum Wage Earners and Other Updates

Sweldong Pinoy for Minimum Wage Earners

One of the requested features for Sweldong Pinoy is to update the app for employees earning minimum wage. Pursuant to Republic Act No. 9504, minimum wage earners are exempted to tax. Now, our apps will not deduct withholding taxes for employees earning minimum wage if you select "Minimum Wage Employee" in the Employee Type before computing your salary.

Other Updates

Aside from Sweldong Pinoy for Minimum Wage Earners, we also have some other updates for Sweldong Pinoy:
  • For employees with daily pays, you can now provide the actual number of days and the app will compute your salary based on this instead of the previous default of 20. This is because not everyone works for 20 days in a given month.
  • We have also improved the computation for the hourly and daily rates which are being used in salary computation, like the night differential and overtime pays.
  • The apps now compute night differential based on number of hours instead of the days
  • Minor changes like moving compute button to right and clear button to the left

These updates are available in http://sweldongpinoy.com, in version 2.5 of the Android app (rolling out now), and in all our apps. If you have any feedback or feature requests, please send us a message.
